Henderson-Smith-Edmonds American Legion Post 86 in Rockville, MD was founded in 1920.

The post was named in honor of Dr. Frederick N. Henderson, Theron Smith, and Lindsey Edmonds who died while in military service to our country during World War I.

The first Post officers were: Commander, Dr. George E. Lewis; vice commander, Edmund L. Jones; adjutant; Robert B. Peter, Jr.; finance officer, W. Valentine Wilson; historian, Harry S. Beall; sergeant-at-arms, Melvin D. Hutchinson.
